My “Harry” arrived way earlier than I expected. He’s been with us since Sunday noon and I’m so pleased to have my early Christmas present (thank you blogging money!). I’m taking my time exploring and adjusting to a HP keyboard (it has a numpad, by the way). Not much difference but of course, it still feels peculiar tinkering a new gadget. I’m still using my old Acer laptop as of this writing because the husband isn’t through installing all the necessary software. He also insists that we buy first a new mouse and a keyboard protective screen and install all those computer protection
Honestly, I know nothing about all these techie stuffs that’s why I let the husband take charge. After all, it’s his line and I trust his expertise. I think he’s yet to install a number of software like MS Office, Adobe Photoshop (as per my request for my digiscrapping), an anti-virus software and last night, he is also considering to avail an encryption web-based service before I start using it. He knows that I engage in online activities that shares confidential and critical data over the web so it’s just imperative that I secure my laptop from malicious network intrusions and hacking. This prompted me to research about what they term as full disk encryption and look for internet authority that provides a reliable service.
It’s from Alertsec Xpress I’ve learned that indeed, having an encryption service provides 100% protection to my laptop from hacking and online data theft activities. It protects by transforming sensitive information to make it unreadable using an algorithm just like how our credit card details are secured whenever we pay online via encrypted sites. The Alertsec Xpress is based on the Check Point Full Disk Encryption software solution, the global leader of encryption service. The software is easy and fully customizable and surprisingly, the monthly rate is just at $13/month. Just a meager cost to grant peace of mind over one’s laptop’s sensitive information.
Last Friday, I was back at my former office to finally get my back pay. Seeing the office walls brought back memories of my more than a year being employed with that company. I feel nostalgic and I miss my former colleagues but do I miss working as a corporate slave? Nahh. I don’t still. You see I have the best of both worlds being a Work-at-Home Mom. I tendered my resignation a month after I resumed work from my Maternity Leave last year. I had a really hard time dealing with separation anxiety with my son then. I am so thankful for the internet because it paved way for me and for the husband to concur on the idea that I become a Work-at-Home Mom. I get to earn at the comfort of our home while I can personally overlook and attend to my son’s needs.
In my line of work, a fast and reliable internet connection is imperative. It’s a good thing that we are subscribed to a fairly fast DSL service, I’m not dealing with interrupted connection and I am not having problems so far receiving and sending emails, visiting web sites, online banking and couple with a great browser, I can optimally hop from one tab to another looking for some more online opportunities.
However, the speed of my internet connection is beyond comparable to that of US internet providers, Qwest for example. The Qwest high speed Internet connection speeds up to an amazing 20 Mbps. I can’t imagine how fast could that be..perhaps, the page have fully loaded even before you have clicked the GO button in the URL browser field. LOL. But seriously, having a 20 Mbps speed is a piece of heaven for internet junkies like me. Qwest provides lots of options and ways how to bring the best of the internet to its consumers. For as low as $19.99 monthly rate bundled with any Qwest phone service package, one’s internet usage is optimized as it allows downloading videos, music, images, and other large files at lightening-fast speeds.
While I was in the midst of concentration composing my blog entry yesterday, the husband suddenly buzzed me a YM message with the words “data integration software“. Of course, I right away knew that he just erroneously clicked my yahoo handle and typed that IT-related keyword. Turns out, he was chatting with a colleague from US about their data protection and data management software that they’ll soon adapt. He later on explained that they need this product from Syncore to speed data their warehouse processing, improve database loads, improve query performance and back up and protect data in distributed environments of their system. I surely didn’t understand the terminologies he used since I’m not an IT person. But whatever it is, there’s only one thing that I’m sure of. This means he’ll render extra hours of work in the office again because of this new project.
It’s nearing mid-December and usually by this time in the workforce, they’re taking it easy and starting to relax in time of the year end’s business wrap up. In the field of sales, this is the time when they do their year end inventory and for most of other businesses, their fiscal year ends too. Just timely since most are in for a long holiday. But this is not seemingly the case for the husband who’s in the programming world. He’s as busy as ever that he usually goes home later than the usual lately. I think they’re finishing a huge project and targeting to finish it by the month end. However, since a lot has filed for long leaves in time of the holiday, they’re forced to render extra time after work to finish this big release and won’t cause much trouble and hassle to those who will be left to work over the holidays. A few needs to report and monitor their servers. They’re client is a big company so it can’t afford down times at any time. They have to be on stand by 24/7. I think this is where a tfs hosting service comes in as an advantage. Microsoft hosted team foundation server (TFS) is a Software as a Service (SaaS) tool that allows an organization to manage their Visual Studio projects without a data center, no IT department, and at the lowest cost in the industry. It may sound not feasible but a hosted tfs makes it possible. Its business applications are delivered and available across the web to enable fast, on-demand access to corporate information wherever you may be. Contrary to an office-based server, tfs saves an organization from costly upfront software and hardware investments as well as system maintenance costs. This solution is very apt to small-to-medium-sized businesses especially with the current recession that is being experienced worldwide.
A couple of my blogger friends went frantic last week when their blogs got hacked by an Arab site. It was not only them who had a scare of their blogging lives but the rest of the Twitter Gang panicked too and hurriedly backed up our own blogs as well. Well, no one surely knows who could be the next victim and being preyed on empty-handed can surely freak one out. Anyway, I think the hacking has got to do with the web host server and not really on the personal blog accounts of my friends. It’s a good thing that their host stores a back-up of their blogs so both of them were able to put back the blog up. Although they were able to recover their blogs, the experience still is very alarming..traumatic if I may say. I can’t imagine losing all of my precious blog posts that I worked hard for a long time and will vanish just like that in a blink of an eye by an unscrupulous being who knows nothing but cause disaster to other people. And so, there goes again the issue of careful choosing for the best and safest web host there is.
Choosing a provider to host your blog or site is like giving someone a back up key to your home. So it’s just so important that careful judgment must be done before settling down with a host to go with. As much as possible, do a thorough research, read testimonials and reviews or read web hosting rating sites to get the real score of your prospective host providers. One example of this is WebHostingRating.com which is a new hosting rating site that aims to build the biggest web hosting directory where one can easily refer to for information on all web hosting providers. It entails their plans, promotional and discount coupons, and unedited reviews by real customers. They also do web hosting awards where they feature the best among the rest in aspects like the most reliable, cheapest or most affordable and others. Like for instance, from their ranking, they feature Hostmonster as the cheapest web hosting for as low as $4.95, with unlimited space and traffic. Other than these helpful info, they also have on site web hosting tutorials that would surely benefit everyone especially those novices in web applications.
