This what has been my (almost) daily merienda fix for almost a week now. Siomai craze, it is! But let me clear first that it’s not a pregnancy craving thingie or whatsoever. Siomai has been my favorite even way before that it could be a staple food in my plate. The only time I totally averted to it was when I got pregnant with Asher that it seemingly became my instant enemy. Just the mere thought of it made me puke. Since the time we transferred here in Frisco, I got an easy (almost) daily access to it because the siomai (and other streetfoods like kikiam, squid balls, kwek-kwek, etc) stand of our neighbor across the street is very tempting. I wonder if it has some fat burner stuffs inside because no matter how much I devour almost everyday, I still am not gaining weight. As what my MIL always say, I’m so lucky because I can just eat anything in enormous amounts without worries of getting fat. So, do you want to feast with me tomorrow over a few plates of siomai?

KFC, is undoubtedly my all time favorite fast food. I can’t recall when this craziness actually started but if my memory serves me right, it was the time when they started offering unlimited gravy and their hot and spicy chicken made more crispier. It’s also amusing to share that KFC played a huge part when hubby and I were just starting our relationship way back college days. It was also that time when our bodies were at our biggest and chunkiest. My feasting of two cups of rice and 1 big part of hot and crispy chicken (sometimes two) weighed me at my heaviest which was at 105 lbs. My average prior to that was just 90 lbs - I have always been on the lighter and skinny side since childhood. On the other hand, hubby feasted on three cups of rice almost everyday for lunch at KFC Nagtahan where we pass by before he drives me home. We were so voracious and yes, we were that fascinated over KFC that we can crave for it that frequent. I cared less if I ballooned since that was really my intention having been always on the skinny side…top diet pills were not on my thoughts unlike most of my classmates then who were so conscious of their figure and weight. Hubby didn’t have issues..he just shrugged off the remarks. He later on lost much weight during his review for the ECE bar exam.
Speaking of KFC, they scored great free advertising when Magic Johnson mentioned Kentucky Fried Chicken in his tribute to Michael Jackson in the Memorial Service held for the King of Pop. 31+++ million of TV viewers in the US (according to Nielsen Company) plus million of viewers worldwide and millions more of viewers who watched the livestream on the internet. Wow KFC certainly saved millions for that advertising. Here’s a video of that part of Magic’s tribute:

Last April 19, we, together with my in-laws, trooped to Apalit..my MIL’s hometown. It’s their town fiesta and given the fact that Kapampangans are great cooks, this event shouldn’t surely be missed. We had great food..all tables that we went were abound with various meat, chicken and fish dishes, sweet native delicacies, street foods (there were chicken feet and head) and a lot more. We “table-hopped” from house to house (there were four all in all) and we’re overwhelmed with the hospitality of Paul’s relatives. We were so full that our tummies felt like it’s gonna explode if we took in another bite. It’s just a blessing that I have a scrawny built and I am not conscious of my calories intake so diet pills are out of the picture. We took some photos however, the heat was so intolerable plus our heavy tummies idled us that we were able to take just a few snapshots and of course, mostly of the little one.

Even though I’m still so sick with this stubborn colds and cough, I need to go online and work on the party preps.
Anyway, with three weeks left before the party, I was finally able to formalize my booking and paid DP to the caterer last week. I could have been 100% done with the food part but I decided not to include and get the kiddie package from them as I find it so costly. Now I’m perusing some quotations I gathered from the web from a few restos and caterers that specialized on kiddie party food packages. In a day or two, I might come up with my pick and have it booked.
As I was searching for restaurants, I chanced upon some cool Denver Restaurants at West Word and even though I’ve just had my lunch, their site made me salivate with the very sumptuous offerings that their featured restaurants have. In particular, I was craving for a burrito and a review shown on their site made me yearn for such more. I love their Review section. People living in or visiting Denver should bookmark this site and have this as their Restaurant Guide.

I like cooking. BUT I like and find joy more in eating than cooking. LOL.
I guess this is a drawback if you grew up with a helper in the household. Added to that, we grew up without a mom by our side - there’s no one to teach us home economics. My siblings and I aren’t that quite accustomed with kitchen utensils. Of course, somehow, I know the basics of cooking like how to fry and how to cook rice the traditional way (the term “gatang” and measuring through the lines in the fingers and all). I also know some basic cooking terms –thanks to our Cooking class way back High School years. But ask if I know how to cook the common Pinoy viands like adobo, sinigang, nilaga..niyahaha! I’m shamefaced. I really love to learn how to do it but sometimes too much online works and babysitting tasks get in the way before lunch time that I barely have time to do it. Further, I have tried several recipes before (weeks after getting married), with my fave cookbooks as my guide, that I even blogged about my own cooked meals. So don’t think that I am that totally idiotic about cooking. There’s my Pineapple Meatloaf, Chili Wings, Hot Burgers, Leftover Fried Rice, Pork Pina Humba (the husband’s favorite), Coleslaw, Pina Bistek and Breaded Pork Chops. Ohh, I wonder when will I unearth my recipe books and start cooking new recipes again. What led me to blog about this in the first place? Perhaps if I browse about Le Creuset Tagines, infinite circulon sets and other cooking utensils more often, it might prompt me to get into some cooking groove.
