There are a wide variety of wooden toys available which can suit all ranges. Young children may appreciate for example play vehicles like fire engines stacking bricks and rings and miniature play sets. Older children may prefer marble runs build sets and even creative items such as carpenter sets.
Wooden toys go back as far as ancient Greek and Roman civilization with archeologists digging up wooden toys that are shaped like horses dolls and chariots indicating how simple and uncomplicated life was back then. They had also unearthed in Egypt what looked like the wooden version of checkers dating back 4000 years. The first puzzle invented in fact was made of wood and it was invented by John Spilsbury in 1760. A mapmaker by profession Spilsbury glued cut up pieces of a map onto a wooden board with the intention of putting them back together in the soonest possible time.
Though you might not immediately see it construction toys also allow children to be creative. Think about a small child building a house with you. When the house is done you can always ask the child who he or she thinks lives there. Many parents are a little confused as to how to play with their children especially as those children get older and you will soon see that if you have something to work with like building construction toys you will be able to form a rapport with them.
