To begin with, we have never celebrated Valentine’s extravagantly in our 11 years of being together. Like we have not gone on a trip, stayed in a hotel, or had a fine dining candlelit dinner. Paul isn’t also the type who’d send me flowers or those humongous bouquets with teddy bears and balloons. If my memory serves me right, it was just our 2nd Valentines that he surprised me with a bouquet..fresh from Dangwa hehe! It hasn’t really been an issue to me. What I look forward to the most anyway is the simple dinner date we’d have.
This year is quite special though. We had a pre-Valentine dinner date at Yakimix on the 12th then took us out again on the 14th for a pasta dinner at The Old Spaghetti House. So that makes two Valentine dates! And two days of fully stuffed and happy tummies, as well.
And oh, he surprised me with a huge box of my Ferrero Rocher chocolates that I emptied in just a matter of 2 days.
The last piece
Just an update regarding the joint pains I complained weeks ago. Well, I think, they’re 90% gone now. There’s still a little pain in my right knee and left foot when I flex them but other than that, I can go down the stairs and walk “normally” now. So it’s safe to conclude that it was caused by the Pyrazinamide medication as a side effect that I took for two months. It was distressing but is never harmful, as my pulmonologist confirmed. No wonder, it’s meant to be taken just for two months. For a moment then, I thought I was suffering a bone disease already that might need a treatment or a calcium supplement or those sickness that has to do with irregular levels of uric acid. Anyway, I’m glad that the discomfort is now over and the husband will no longer joke about buying me a stairlift like the one Carl Fredricksen used in the movie Up.

Paul and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary last December 17 but since it was also the day that I got admitted in the hospital for Pleural Effusion recurrence, our special anniversary dinner date was indefinitely postponed. I got us a discounted Spiral Buffet deal over at Cashcashpinoy weeks before and it’s supposedly my sweet treat for us. It’s a good thing that the voucher was valid until January 31st so last January 30 (yeah, buzzer beaters almost!) we drove all the way from Batasan to Pasay for a special buffet dinner.
Just a side note, this was actually our third attempt as we initially planned to go the day before but Asher woke up with a fever. He got well the next day so off we went to finally celebrate. But it seemed we were jinxed as the car’s brakes started to conk out while approaching MOA and we were just 5 minutes away from Sofitel. Paul said that the brake suddenly loosened and there was a feeling of air blocking when he steps on the brake pedal. We managed to reach the hotel parking safe and sound. He drove so slowly and with lots of precaution while I sit silently, trying not to panic but very nervous.
Then finally, we were able to taste our much awaited Spiral dinner buffet. I stuffed my plate with lots of tempura, california maki, siomai (my typical buffet staples) and other delectable viands. Another plate was also filled with desserts…oohh how I love the mini-cheesecakes! The husband, on the other hand, didn’t enjoy much at first and ate a little less than his usual because he was so bothered by the car brakes. He at first gave an alibi that he’s on a diet and, so that he won’t be needing an hgh supplement for his muscle building efforts but later on admitted that he’s thinking about how we’re going home that night. I told him to stop thinking about it for a moment, enjoy the buffet first and after stuffing ourselves, that’s when we’ll think about the situation.
Sorry, just a picture of our leftovers is what I was able to take. I was so hungry then that I right away devoured my meal.
We were home by 12 am, I think, after having the car towed from Pasay to Frisco and after spending Php 3000 for the services. The husband didn’t mind the cost..our safety is his utmost concern. Our anniversary dinner date got postponed twice and despite all the challenges we encountered, I’m just glad that it still pushed through and the three of us (and our tummies) had fun.
